WOMEN
While hate has been dominated by men in both history books and public memory, women have been critical players in organized racism and extremist far-right politics since before the Civil War. Women have upheld the institution of slavery, burned crosses, protested racial integration, bombed synagogues and black churches, and participated in online chatrooms dedicated to racist content. To ignore the role women have played in hate would be to ignore a critical history of gender, race, power and privilege. We must remember the women of hate.
